Oedipus the King

In the story, the most important characters are Oedipus the King, Teiresias, and Creon. Oedipus the King, the King of Thebes is a selfish kind of king. He somehow cursed or asked the Gods to kill the former king, which is King Lauis. Teiresias, the seer, was the one who predicted and saith that, Oedipus the King was the one who killed King Lauis. Creon, the brother of Iocasta, the Queen of Thebes, was accused that he is the one who killed King Lauis.

The relationship between the characters in the story to one another is that, they are all part of the royal family. They are somehow connected with each other. Oedipus didn’t know that his wife was his mother and King Lauis, whom he killed was his father.

The story took place during the ancient Greece. The people of Thebes, including Oedipus, believed in the gods and goddesses. They ask guidance and protection from Apollo, Athena, and Artemis.

The conflict in the story was when, the people of Thebes was suffering from this plague. They ask ask the help of Oedipus to solve the problem. Oedipus told his people that he ordered Creon to find the answers to their conflict. When Creon returned, he said that the only solution to their problem is to find the killer or murderer of their former king, King Lauis.

The story arises when, Oedipus finds out that he was the one who killed King Lauis. When Creon said that there is a blind prophet who could help them answer and solve their conflict. Teiresias, the blind prophet was accosted by Oedipus and he has no plans of telling him what he knows. Through out their conversation, more like an argument, Teiresias spilled out the answer that Oedipus was the one who killed King Lauis.  Moreover, he also found out that King Lauis was his real father and Iocasta was his real mother, through his visitor, the Corinthian.

In my opinion, the problem wasn’t really that solved. Creon as a good brother-in-law to Oedipus,  he took over the responsibility of a king to Oedipus. The daughters of Oedipus, Antigone and Ismene were also left to Creon. Oedipus wasn’t true to his words because, according to him, whoever killed King Lauis would be killed too.

I’d like the ending to be unexpected. Like for example, when Oedipus finds out that Iocasta was his mother, he would have killed Creon because, there would be a possibility that Creon would overthrow him. Despite the fact that, Creon wouldn’t really like to rule the Theban people.

Oedipus Book Report

Oedipus is the king of Thebes and the son of Iocasta and King Laius before he was born he was prophesizes to kill his father and marry his mother Iocasta. Iocasta is the mother of Oedipus and his queen he was former married with King Laius and he has a brother named Creon. Tiresias is the seer that Oedipus asked for help in order to solve the plague that the gods have given them. He has the ability to look into the future and make prophesy as he is give a gift by the god Apollo.

Oedipus is the son of Iocosta and when her husband died Oedipus became his wife.Iocosta is also the sister of Creon whom Oedipus despise. Because of Oedipus thinking Creon wants the kingdom and planning to over throne him.

The story was set on the kingdom of Thebes where in it is suffering on the plague and trying to find out who have killed the former king Laius. In the kingdom there current king is Oedipus as he have already married his mother Iocosta.

The conflict start before Oedipus was born Iocosta and Laius consulted a seer. It is said that when the child is born he will kill his father and marry his mother. The day Oedipus was born they ordered a servant to kill him unfortunately the servant cant kill the child and brought him to another kingdom where he wall adopted by their king and queen. Now as he grows up he wanted to escape the prophecy and left to travel as he was travelling he met a man in a carriage and had a disagreement causing Oedipus to kill them. Then Oedipus became the king of Thebes. Now the gods have forsaken the kingdom Thebes for their former king has not yet gotten justice for its killer still roam freely. The kingdom now suffer from a great plague and now they are asking their current king Oedipus to hunt the one responsible for Laius death. Oedipus seeks the seer Teiresias to know who is the killer. But Teiresias didn’t want to help Oedipus. Oedipus now threaten Teiresias and he told Oedipus that the killer was no other person but him.

The Climax is when Oedipus finds out that he was the one who killed Laius and that the phrophecy came true that he will kill his father and will marry his mother. For his blindness of reality that he blinded him self as he is blind for what had happened.

If I will make an alternate ending it will be that Creon will kill Oedipus for he is the traitor of Thebes and Iocosta will not kill her self but rather will become a seer like Teiresias and Creon his brother will become the new king but he will not marry Iocosta.

Book Analysis “Oedipus the King”

Oedipus is the great king thebes, however, he is rude and shows a little cruelty to his city and his people. Even though he is abrupt by too much praise, he’s still a wise and a loyal king. His wife is Jocosta, Queen of thebes. She is very lovable and loyal to his husband even he show negative personality to his people.

Oedipus, King of thebes and his queen, wife and lover Jocosta . Their daughter is Antigone, who has a different story. And Teresias, he is the seer in thebes; he predict things that will come to the lives of people in thebes. Creon, brother of Jocosta and a loyal to the great king Oedipus, He’s an adventurer; he go to different places and tell some info from there to king Oedipus.

The story took place in thebes of Greece,  most of the scenes took place on his royal kingdom, like when he’s talking to her wife/queen, which took place in his royal palace. It happens in the mythological age in Greece.

One of the conflicts is when Teiresias didn’t tell what he saw in his prophecy to Oedipus, The king went mad and he blame teresias for the death of the former king Laius. After that, he also accuse Creon, his brother-in-law.

When the shepherd told the story of Oedipus, who he was, who’s his real parents, when he was a little baby who will bring chaos to his family. And when the messenger saw his vision and describes the scenes of suffering.

The problem all starts when Oedipus became the king of thebes, it brought the plague that weakens the city and its people. It’s like a curse of Oedipus, to stop this problem, the murderer of the former king Laius must arrested and exiled in thebes which the present king of thebes Oedipus.

If I were to write another ending, I would make Oedipus stay in his kingdom as the king of thebes so he can finish his reign and stay loyal to his city and people; and the people wouldn’t think that he’s a coward and useless king. We cannot escape the prophecy that has given to us.

Oedipus the King

The most important characters in the story are Oedipus, Iocasta and Creon. Oedipus is a brave man with strong will power because he was very persistent on finding the man who murdered the king of Thebes,  Laius. Iocasta is the queen of Thebes who is now the wife of Oedipus. She is a woman with a kind heart because she showed her willingness to help Oedipus seek the truth. Creon is a man with great determination to look for the murderer of the former king. He is a man that is loyal to his kingdom.

Oedipus is the husband of Iocasta and at the same time Iocasta’s son. He was adopted by King Polybus and Queen Merope of Corinth. Iocasta is the wife of Oedipus and former wife of Laius. Iocasta and Laius had a son that turned out to be Oedipus. She is also the sister of Creon.

“Oedipus the king” is mostly set on the kingdom of Thebes since Thebes is now the kingdom of Oedipus. This story is set on the ancient times where there are many kings and queens on different places instead of presidents.

The conflict of this story started when Apollo prophesied that Laius’ son would eventually kill him and would marry his wife. So they decided to kill their son. They sent him to a forest to be killed by one of their man. The man failed to accomplish his mission. When the child grew up he became the heir of Corinth. One of the problems he encountered was when a drunk man told him that he is adopted. Oedipus was determined to find the truth so he set out for a journey and left Corinth. There, he encountered a man in a carriage with knights surrounding him. The men were trying to stop Oedipus so Oedipus killed them all. Soon, he reached the city of Thebes. A man called Creon asked for his help to find the murderer of their king. Because of Oedipus’ determination to find the murderer, he went to Teiresias to seek for help but instead was accused of killing the king. They were arguing and Oedipus involved Creon in the argument. Creon and Oedipus had a fight as well. Soon, his wife Iocasta decided to help him.

The climax of this story is when Oedipus finally met the Theban shepherd that Iocasta ordered to kill her son. Oedipus found out the truth and was devastated to know that he killed his father and married his mother. The prophecy came true. Soon, Iocasta killed herself.

His problem with other people was solved when he found out the truth, but still he was very devastated specially when he found out that Iocasta killed herself.

If I could create another ending, I would rather see Iocasta alive and accepting her fate. It would have been nice that after everything that happened, they would still consider each other as family.

“He, himself is the Pollution”

………………………………………………………………………….

A king in the city of Thebes was called as Oedipus. Impatient, stubborn and wants to find answers immediately. Good at blaming others however greedy to those who accuse him. A loyal, diligent, obedient brother-in-law that was tasked to do some investigation about the problem that was happening in their palace, he was Creon. Has a personality of being tolerant despite the cold attitude Oedipus is screening. A brave seer that was requested by the king, he was brave, honest and speaks only the truth, he is known for his name Tiresias. Even knowing that he could be penalized and be sentenced to death, he still notified Oedipus who the real demolisher of his kingdom was.

Living inside the palace was a female with great care towards her king and family. She is Iocasta, the queen of Oedipus. Creon, who was her brother have been completely loyal with his words and deeds to Oedipus. However, Oedipus doubts about it. Making them feel uncomfortable in certain issues.

Continent of Europe that is a part of Greece, it happened in the city of Thebes and Corinth where I supposed it took place in 19th t 20th century, wherein Shakespeare language already existed. Using it as a basis, I made it as a source that it happened during the era of Shakespeare.

Creon informed Oedipus that Polybus (52) told him that if they will not do something about the contaminated crisis, their kingdom will no longer attained peace and will befall towards success. However, the hindrance of solving this was a man they cannot figure out who. Knowing this he spread the news to look for whoever can tell him answers. Frightened, more than surprise, Tiresias gave him a puzzle advice. (Verse 550, 60). Annoyed, outraged, he almost ordered his man to kill the seer with thoughts lurking around his head that Creon was behind all of this. Creon, who denies the charge as soon as he heard the information, immediately finds Oedipus and the two busted out their own principles (V. 150, 66). In the end, Oedipus’ question was finally solved coming up with a solution wherein he ordered Creon to help him with it, taking everything he had worked hard for (V. I 440, 98).

When Iocasta talked about things to Oedipus that was only the moment when he had begin thinking of the real scenario (V. 750, 72). With that, he knew that he was destined to kill his father, marry his mother. To sum it all up, he was the monster of his own fantasy. He was the main pollution of everything.

A true man can handle situations as long as he is dignified and determined on where he stands. The dilemma concerning about the people and the kingdom itself, man can find a way to deal with it. Face the reality. Sacrifice. To discuss it with his family and let them know that it was his fate that he must finish of.

If I would be given a chance to come up with another ending, I liked it to be a happy one. I want Oedipus to return back to his family right after he had suffered and paid for what he had done unintentionally. I want Iocasta to help her husband recover and once more rejoice the people of Thebes and their castle once and for all. As for Creon, I want him to develop and enhance his skills and relationship towards Oedipus.
